Statewide Consultation

Introduction

The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) is the lead agency for the South Australian Government’s policy on sport and active recreation. ORSR supports sport and recreation through the development of policy, programs and resources, the provision of funding, recreation and sport planning, infrastructure development, elite sport pathways and programs, and the promotion of physical activity. ORSR also provides strategic policy advice to the Minister on matters relating to the South Australian Racing industry.

From June to August 2019, ORSR actively sought deeper collaboration with the community and its stakeholders regarding three projects which were identified as key priorities for the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan cycle.

The three priority projects are:

These three projects were consulted on collectively, as they are closely aligned and will deliver outcomes that address whole of government and department objectives.

ORSR engaged URPS to support the consultation process to ensure the engagement captured community views from right across South Australia and from a variety of perspectives including local government, providers of sport and recreation, and communities.

The Consultation

To support this collaboration with its stakeholders, ORSR undertook a 10 week statewide consultation process to gather early input for use across all three priority projects and establish the foundation for ongoing conversations and working relationships.  The outcomes of this statewide consultation will be used by the three priority projects to inform subsequent phases of each individual project.

The 10 week consultation phase for these projects was extensive – through 34 interactive workshops and forums held across the state, 25 written submissions, 412 Facebook posts and 150 online feedback forms.

Feedback was received from 54 of the 68 Councils, 56 state sporting and recreations organisations, industry bodies and support organisations and 229 community clubs and groups.

The below Consultation Discussion Paper was presented to all participants attending the consultation.
