The people spoke… and the club heard!
For a fair while, the McLaren Vale Tennis Club had been facing increasing pressure for greater weeknight access to its six courts during the warmer months.
As the club’s president Graham Wilson notes, in the heat of summer night-time temperatures are far kinder to players, plus there are other advantages:
“Younger adults and young families can also fit tennis into their busy schedules at night compared to the traditional Saturday afternoon time slot for tennis,” said Mr Wilson.
So – the club joined forces with the McLaren Vale Netball Club to find the funds needed to upgrade the courts’ lighting.
In stepped ORS, contributing $22,000 under Round 41 of the Active Club Program (the total bill was a touch over $44,000).
The player response has been immediate: when the 2017-18 summer season begins, the McLaren Vale competition (held jointly with the McLaren Flat Tennis Club) will have 17 four-person teams – a very healthy increase, but as far as the club is concerned, just the beginning!
