Save the date - VACSWIM's coming!

5 September 2016

Over 13,000 primary school aged children are expected to take part at more than 130 pool and beach locations across metropolitan and regional South Australia, with the majority of locations offering VACSWIM from the 3rd - 11th January 2017 in line with the Christmas and New Year holiday break.

SA Water VACSWIM, South Australia’s largest and most iconic aquatic safety program with over 50 years of history, has opened for registrations TODAY with organisers encouraging all families to sign up early and save the date.

Over 13,000 primary school aged children are expected to take part at more than 130 pool and beach locations across metropolitan and regional South Australia, with the majority of locations offering VACSWIM from the 3 - 11 January 2017 in line with the Christmas and New Year holiday break.

Rather than a learn to swim program, the state wide initiative should be viewed as a supporting activity covering a range of vital water safety and survival techniques that could save lives this summer including first aid, entering and exiting the water correctly, surf and sun safety and what a child can do if they find themselves in trouble.

Reaching out to all people particularly children and families that come from multi-cultural backgrounds is a significant focus for the 2016/17 season.

SA Water VACSWIM is delivered by Surf Life Saving SA, Royal Life Saving Society SA and YMCA at the peak of the summer holiday period when many families find themselves enjoying aquatic activity.

Enventive administers VACSWIM on behalf of the South Australian Government with General Manager Neil Mackenzie explaining that the timing of the program is key.

“SA Water VACSWIM is available to children at the height of summer ensuring the learning is front of mind when in the water. Ideally families should think about making VACSWIM a part of their summer holiday agenda, whether they are staying close to home or travelling to one of South Australia’s many local tourist destinations offering VACSWIM.

Whilst VACSWIM serves an important purpose to reduce drownings and water related incidents, it should also be remembered that VACSWIM is a lot of fun and something that many children enjoy partaking in with friends,” explains Neil.

VACSWIM is described as the best value for money holiday program with individual enrolment starting at $30 per participant.
