The bats are being oiled, the mitts scrubbed, and the cleats cleaned – it’s almost baseball season in Australia. And this summer, South Australian women can join in.
In just two months, on 13 November, the inaugural Women’s Baseball League season will be underway.
The league is open to women and girls aged 15 and over, and it’s free to join, train and play. Players are required for the season, which starts with a training session on 17 October and includes six games for each of four teams.
Games will be played at Adelaide’s newest sports arena, the $4 million purpose-built Diamond Sports baseball and softball complex at West Beach.
The complex includes fully lit baseball and softball diamonds, a third, multi-use diamond and an indoor training facility that caters for both sports.
The ORS Sport and Recreation funding programs contributed funding for the complex and the Women’s Baseball League. For information on ORS funding programs visit www.ors.sa.gov.au
