The State Government is providing $700,000 to the SA Games Appeal Committee for the next four years in the lead-up to the 2016 Rio Games.
As the London Olympics approach, planning is now well underway to ensure South Australian athletes continue to be well represented in future Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games teams.
This State Government commitment of $700,000 builds on the $650,000 provided in 2008 to help top athletes continue with their training and compete at the highest level.
The Committee was established 15 years ago to raise funds to help our athletes achieve their ultimate goals and compete on the world stage.
37 South Australian Olympians and 13 Paralympians will compete in London for their country against the best in the world.
The South Australian athletes competing in London range from first timers like marathon runner, Jessica Trengove and paralympian, Rachel Henderson to veterans, such as shooter, Libby Kosmala and cyclist, Stuart O'Grady.
There's also father and daughter shooting pair - David and Hayley Chapman &ndash and cycling brother and sister - Annette and Alex Edmonson.
This base funding will assist the Appeal Committee to continue its outstanding work in generating further funding - more than $1 million over the past four years - to support home-grown athletes.
