New head coach for SASI Volleyball

SASI volleyball coach

Michael Nelson has taken up the reins as new Head Volleyball Coach at the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).

Michael, who has worked at the AIS/Volleyball Australia High Performance Beach Volleyball Program for several years, will play a key part in developing South Australia’s volleyball talent in the future.

"I am honoured to have been appointed and look forward to working with the Volleyball talent we have here in South Australia." he said.

His impressive coaching achievements include:
  •     coaching of Australia’s No.1 ranked female Beach Volleyball team at the London Olympics
  •     performing the role of beach Volleyball Assistant Coach and Performance Analysis for Team Cook/Hinchey at the Beijing Olympics
  •     coach and Head of Delegation for the 2010 Beach Volleyball Youth Championships, resulting in a Bronze Medal.
Michael completed postgraduate qualifications in Sports Coaching as part of an AIS National Coaching Scholarship.
"The coaching scholarship has enabled me to enhance my knowledge of the national sporting network and developed my high performance coaching abilities," he said.

He takes over Alexis Lebedew, who successfully led the SASI Volleyball Championship for four years.
