Live odds ads banned

22 May 2013

Banned

The advertising of live odds betting will be banned from South Australian television screens during sports broadcasting.

The ban was announced by the Premiere at the launch of the recent Responsible Gambling Awareness Week to stop live odds betting being advertised on television or displayed at the ground as part of normal sport coverage.

The State Government tabled the Independent Gambling Authority’s 2011-13 Codes of Practice Review Inquiry Report - which proposes to ban live odds advertising in broadcast media and at the ground - in Parliament in May.
The government also plans to make a submission to the Free TV and ASTRA Subscription TV reviews into the advertising of live odds during sports broadcasts, as well as place the issue on the COAG agenda.
