See how your sporting skills stack up against elite athletes with the 'Rate Yourself' application on the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) Facebook page.
SASI expects to boost current athletic testing by over 200 athletes each year as a result of this updated app, which enables 13-25 year olds to undertake athletic tests, post their results and challenge their Facebook friends.
The Institute wants to see more 13-25 year olds engaged in sport, particularly in South Australia's regional areas and from Indigenous communities, as well as athletes with a disability. The project aims to ensure that young people are engaged in sport from a young age and provide pathways for talented young athletes to excel in their chosen field.
Approximately 90 percent of SASI athletes are from metropolitan Adelaide, a credit to the SASI talent search programs in city and suburban schools.
Rate Yourself' helps young and aspiring athletes undertake several simple athletic tests which could lead to SASI Development squads in Rowing, Kayak, Cycling and Volleyball.
Other tests can lead to potential club opportunities with pathways to SASI Talented Athlete and Country Athlete Awards in any Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Specific tests for swimming, athletics and table tennis are included, as well as Para-athlete wheelchair tests.
Those with results indicating a natural sporting ability will be invited to attend an official testing session with SASI or the Australian Paralympic Committee to verify results and discuss the sporting pathways available.
