After-hours sport looking bright thanks to new lights
Keen netballers and tennis players at Summertown now have four courts to choose from, any time of day – or night (within reason!).
Tregarthen Reserve in the town has had four courts for a while, but up until about a year ago only three had lights for night-time playing. And even they needed an upgrade…
With the Office for Recreation and Sport contributing $30,000 under its Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program, with the Summertown Community Centre and the local netball and tennis clubs chipping in another $30,000 and a lot of work.
The result: all the courts now have crisp, clear lighting.
Summertown sports-lovers have noticed a big difference: netballers have greater options for training, and there’s more room for more players on social tennis nights (and more scope for fundraising events).
The word is, visiting teams have also been very impressed.
Now to solve the fog problem on those misty mid-winter nights!
