Sad, weedy space morphs into fab fitness park

There are many, many popular spots along the River Murray – but until recently a patch of land next to the Caurnamont boat ramp wasn’t one of them.

Neglected, tired, unkempt – the land, east of Mannum, was unloved, and unvisited.

The Purnong and Districts Progress Association, however, saw potential in the site: it believed it would be the perfect spot for an outside exercise area!

$14,000 and a lot of work later, the dream has been realised – as these pics on the association’s Facebook page clearly demonstrate (see the post from Sept 11th 2019):

As the association says:

“The Adult Fitness Area project has taken a space which was unused, with weeds and debris, and transformed it into a landscaped, outdoor fitness area.

“The area is already being well utilised by the community.”

The Progress Association isn’t finished with the site though. To fully realise its potential, plans are afoot to also use the exercise area for fundraising ventures, boot camps and other activities, to make sure as many mid-Murray residents as possible benefit from it.

*The Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing was the major contributor to the project, allocating it $12,000 through Round 45 of the Active Club Program.
