Seaside tennis courts a Fleurieu favourite
Picturesque Port Elliot has just added another crowd-pleaser to its long list of attractions: six fully refurbished and resurfaced tennis courts.
And they can be booked online anytime, from anywhere in Australia!
The overhaul of the courts cost $118,000, with ORSR contributing $62,000 through the 2017-18 round of the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program.
Three of the Augusta Square courts are now acrylic-coated, the other three have synthetic grass surfaces, meaning games can now take place in all conditions. (Previously games weren’t possible on the old hard courts when it was wet.)
New gate access technology was installed as part of the upgrade, as well as a new “book-a-court” system: this allows anyone, anywhere to reserve a court online through Tennis Australia. (The Port Elliot Tennis Club is just the second club in Australia to adopt the initiative.)
No wonder club members are smiling!
“With the new courts and new lighting [*funded separately], the club now boasts four junior team and five senior teams as well as social over 50's tennis plus night tennis two nights a week.
“This has allowed the club to generate extra revenue.
“Which all means - completing this project has assured the future of the club into the next decade!
