‘Off-road’ tennis courts no more!

It sounds like some something from a 4WD ad – a surface that was:

“… cracked, slippery and undulating - and it was only a matter of time before someone took a spill”…

Except… the surface in question wasn’t a dirt track out back, but a suburban Adelaide tennis court! (Two suburban courts in fact!!)

The courts in question belong to the Hectorville Sport and Community Club, in Adelaide’s inner north-east. (The courts are actually located at the Daly Oval Sports Complex, in Magill.)

As the club admits, Courts 1 and 2 had suffered a lot of love over the years:

“They are used day and night for tennis coaching, hitting, junior and senior competitions and also for netball. It's no wonder they were in need of repair!”

With the help of the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, the courts have now been fully repaired and fully resurfaced (ORSR footed just under half of the $25,000 bill, with a grant under Round 1 of the Sporting Surfaces Program).

Best of all, Courts 1 and 2 are now fully back in action – and ready for many more years of tough love!
